Effectively Refurbishing Dining Tables

Dining tables will always be an important part of the home. It is in the dining table that everyone catches up on the things they did for the day while they enjoy their dinner. The new day usually starts an activity with the dining table where everyone enjoys their breakfast. As an important furniture, it is just right to keep the dining table looking good all the time. A dirty and a dilapidated table could easily weaken the spirit and the whole family might not enjoy eating there.

If you think your dining table is in a bad condition, it’s time to refurbish it. You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars just to have another dining table in your home. There are things that you can use at home that will refurbish your dining table in no time.

Fix Before Refurbish

Before you start the refurbishing process, take a closer look at your dining table. Anything that needs fixing in your dining table should be done before refurbishing. The wobbly legs and holes in your table should be fixed and filled. It’s a bad idea to fix your table after refurbishing since your table would have to be refurbished again because the fixing process might dent the color of your dining table.

Sanding

After fixing your dining table, clean your table with a sander or a sand paper. Sanding will remove the original finish and other undesirables such as gums and paints that were accidentally done on your table.

By properly sanding your dining table, you are practically wiping your table clean for a new set of varnish or paint. Be sure to evenly apply the sander in your table and if you’re using a tool, never apply the sander too much or else it will deform your table.

Paint or Varnish

There are two ways to refurbish your table – you can either apply varnish or paint your table. If you want a classic look in your table, you can always go with varnish. The refurbishing process in dining table is quicker with varnish. Remember to apply the varnish evenly and it is highly recommended to do it in one way. Although it will not be noticeably seen, small uneven surface and various direction will make your table look bad. On the other hand, you can paint your table if you want an artistic table. Although this would take longer because you have to apply at least two coatings, the end result is often desirable.

Keeping the Table Clean

After you have completely refurbished your table, be sure to keep it clean for as long as possible. After every use, clean your table thoroughly and keep it dry as much as possible. Use table cloths that will protect your table from getting wet and avoid using it as support for heavy objects. A dining table should always be clean, dry and presentable so that it will always be appealing and family interaction day and night would be better. As long as you know how to refurbish, you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars for brand new furniture.
